Repertoire and Listening for Musicians is the first course in the School of Music taught entirely online. For the required, four-semester course, Paul Johnston, artist lecturer in music, assigns weekly selections of streamed music on the Internet, weekly questions to be discussed on Carnegie Mellon’s Blackboard site, and score reading. “If you want to be a professional musician … you can reach much higher if you hear how high others have taken our art,” Johnston says.
