Carnegie Mellon’s experienced faculty members regularly make headlines, but the younger crowd is catching up. This summer, five university-affiliated scientists were among the 96 recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers: Professors Luis von Ahn (CS’03,’05) in computer science and John Kitchin in chemical engineering, along with alumni Vincent Conitzer (CS’03, ’06), Frank DelRio (E’98), and Curtis Huttenhower (CS’03). Meanwhile, Bernardine Dias, a Robotics Institute professor, was one of two scholars nationally to receive the 2012 Borg Early Career Award for research contributions and outreach to women.
