For three years, Capt. Gregory Billy called the rugged shores of Italy's Isola La Maddalena, near Sardinia, home. As commander of Submarine Squadron 22, Billy directed operational support to all submarines deployed in Europe and oversaw the La Maddalena base. Today, he still carries the title of commander, but he calls Pittsburgh home. As the newest commander of Carnegie Mellon's Naval ROTC unit, Billy succeeds Capt. Keith Bowman.
