NF 13 V11n3We're seeing it often in criminal trials. The defendant rises in the courtroom, awaiting a verdict that could lead to life in prison or freedom. Perhaps the most important factor in the jury’s decision: forensic evidence.

Stephen Fienberg, a CMU professor of Statistics and Social Sciences, will indirectly impact juries across America. He was recently named to the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology’s National Commission on Forensic Science. This newly formed commission will help standardize the practice of forensic science and provide policy recommendations for the U.S. Attorney General.
