Star of Broadway’s The Full Monty Unforgettable in Alamo

Movie fans may not remember The Alamo this time around, but they won’t soon forget the performance of Carnegie Mellon alumnus Patrick Wilson (A’95), who plays Lt. Col. William Barret Travis in the new film from Disney.

Wilson, who stripped on stage in the Broadway version of The Full Monty, hopes they’ll also remember that this time he died with his clothes on.

In Alamo Wilson delivers “the film’s pivotal performance,” according to Clay Smith of Access Hollywood. “The real discovery here,” writes Smith, “is big-screen newcomer Patrick Wilson.”

Wilson, who received critical acclaim as Joe Pitt in the HBO mini-series Angels In America, will also appear in the role of Raoul in the soon-to-be released film version of Phantom of the Opera.

He began his career headlining the national tour of Carousel in 1996, then starred in Lucky in the Rain and Harmony in 1997. He tackled his first major non-musical stage role in The Cider House Rules (1998) before landing his breakthrough leading role in Bright Light, Big City.

Wilson received Tony Award nominations for The Full Monty and Oklahoma, and won the drama league award for Bright Lights, Big City, The Full Monty and Gershwin’s Fascinating Rhythm.

Wilson recently flew to New York from the West Coast to host the Carnegie Mellon Drama School auditions. “I was happy to do it,” he told the assembly. “I’ll do whatever I can for this school, because look what it’s done for me.”
