Are you searching for an old friend or perhaps a new job? How about a regional chapter of the alumni association or a mentor in your field? You can find it online at the recently expanded alumni association Web site.

With the launch of a new and improved alumni Web site—alumni.cmu.edu—the university is offering a comprehensive suite of online services designed to bring alumni closer together. Improved organization and simplified navigation mean that alumni can more easily access tools and information tailored to the university’s community of alumni and friends.

“When I joined Carnegie Mellon, one of my first priorities was to bring our Web site to the high standard that our alumni expect from this exceptional institution,” said Judy Cole, associate vice president of alumni relations. “Our focus is to encourage our alumni to be active, and we believe this Web site will meet and exceed their needs.”

The new site was designed under the leadership of the Alumni Association Board. Feedback from board members, chapter leaders, the School of Computer Science Alumni Board, the CIT Leadership Council and individual alumni—as well as a comprehensive review of data regarding usage of the existing site—went into designing the new site.

When alumni visit the improved site, they will find resources organized into the following categories:

  • What you can do for each other
  • What Carnegie Mellon can do for you
  • What you can do for Carnegie Mellon

It’s not just the navigation that’s new. The current Online Community section has been expanded to include the Career Advisor Network, which allows alumni to enter their detailed work history, areas of expertise and other business information. These profiles are searchable by members of the Online Community to facilitate business and job networking among alumni. The Career Advisor Network also will be open to current Carnegie Mellon students in the near future to aid them in finding mentors and internship opportunities.

Included in the Career Advisor Network is a job and resume service. This searchable database houses alumni resumes and grants access to job openings posted by the university, fellow alumni and other peer institutions that also use the online service.

Key to the new site’s success is participation. Every alumnus or alumna who visits the Web site and joins the online community helps to create a broader, more dynamic alumni network.

“Participation will help to advance our reputation and extend our impact in the world,” Cole said. “Whether you just graduated or consider yourself a loyal Scot, the collaborative environment created through the online community will benefit everyone involved.”

As additional tools and services become available, alumni.cmu.edu will continue to be the nexus between the university and its alumni.

“Our goal is simple: create new ways to connect and reconnect with each other,” Cole said.
