If something doesn't change soon, the Internet might run out of the capacity to hold more addresses within three years. IPv4, the addressing system, can't keep up with the demand, as computers, mobile phones, and other technological devices proliferate. The shortage is just one of the issues Carnegie Mellon University President Jared L. Cohon will help address as a new member of the board of trustees at Internet2—a U.S. networking consortium led by the research and education community.
