As a youngster growing up on Long Island, N.Y., Jessica Wilson always enjoyed playing outside by the water. Those childhood days have evolved into a career as a chemist, where she explores ways to keep water clean as she pursues her PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon. For her commitment to the field, the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society, awarded her the Environmental Chemistry Graduate Student Award.
