Although Carnegie Mellon President Jared L. Cohon hasn’t walked on the moon—like Neil Armstrong, another National Engineering Award recipient—he has charted new territory. An authority on environmental and water resource systems analysis, he’s worked on water resource problems in the United States, South America, and Asia; on energy facility siting; and on nuclear waste shipping and storage. His 2011 award from the American Association of Engineering Societies recognizes his leadership in advancing engineering education and the engineering profession.
