When Heung-Yeung “Harry” Shum (CS’96) left his hometown of Shanghai, China, to study robotics at Carnegie Mellon, he says he had no idea he’d still be in the United States two decades later. But, here he is, a holder of more than 50 U.S. patents and a corporate vice president at Microsoft. Shum was recently honored by the Chinese Institute of Engineers/USA as one of five 2011 Asian American Executives of the Year.
